If you must use mounting rails, fasten the rails to the lower pair of holes as
shown in Figure 10. (In some instances, you may need to fasten the rails to the
upper set of holes.) After fastening the rails, check their positioning by sliding the
drive into the bay before you mount the drive or connect any cables.

Plug a free connector on the IDE cable into the IDE connector on the rear panel
of the drive before you insert the drive into your computer. Then thread the cable
through the front of the open bay and back toward the motherboard. The drive
should slide smoothly into the bay. If it does not, check for obstructions in the
bay and ensure the side rails are attached properly.

If not already connected, attach one end of the IDE ribbon cable to the connector
on the motherboard.
