 - Do not let the mains cord hang over the edge of the table or worktop

on which the appliance stands.

 - This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with

reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience

Electromagnetic fields (EMF)

This Philips appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic

fields (EMF). If handled properly and according to the instructions in this user

manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientific evidence available today.

Before first use

 1

Remove any stickers and wipe the body of the appliance and the bread

baskets with a damp cloth.

 2

Before you use the appliance for the first time, we advise you to let the

appliance complete a few toasting cycles without slices of bread on the

highest browning setting in a properly ventilated room. This burns off

any dust that may have accumulated on the heating elements and

prevents unpleasant smells during toasting.

Using the appliance

 1

Put the appliance on a stable and flat surface, away from curtains and

other combustible materials.

 2

Put the plug in the wall socket. You can adjust the length of the cord

by winding part of it round the brackets in the bottom of the

appliance (Fig. 2).

Toasting sandwiches or bread

Never let the appliance operate unattended.
Caution: Avoid touching the metal parts of the toaster as they become

very hot during toasting.

 1

Put a filling, e.g. ham and cheese, between two thin slices of bread.

Tip: You can also use the appliance to toast separate slices of bread without a filling.

 2

Lift the bread baskets out of the appliance by means of the handles.

 3

Put a sandwich or one slice of bread in each basket.  (Fig. 3)

Tip: Make sure the sandwiches or slices of bread go all the way down inside the

baskets, for a good and even toasting result.

 4

Insert the bread baskets into the appliance.

 5

Select the desired browning setting.  (Fig. 4)

 - Select a low setting (1-2) for lightly toasted sandwiches or slices of bread.

 - Select a high setting (5-7) for darkly toasted sandwiches or slices of bread.

 - Select the defrost function

Ñ

(settings 6 to 7, depending on the desired

browning degree) for toasting frozen bread.

Note: If the bread is damp or if you have put a lot of ingredients between the slices,

the appliance needs a longer toasting time to produce the same toasting result.

 6

Push the toasting lever down to switch on the appliance.  (Fig. 5)

Note: The toasting lever only stays down if the appliance is connected to the

mains.

,

When the toasted sandwiches or slices of bread are ready, the toasting

lever pops up and the appliance switches off automatically.

Note: You can stop the toasting process at any time by pressing the stop button

on the toaster.

Caution: If a slice of bread gets stuck inside the toaster, unplug the appliance

and let it cool down before you try to remove the bread. Do not use a

knife or a sharp tool, as these may cause damage to the heating elements.

 7

Lift the bread baskets out of the appliance by means of the handles.

 8

Squeeze the handle of the bread basket (1) and turn it upside down

to remove the toasted sandwich or slice of bread (2) (Fig. 6).

Cleaning

Do not immerse the appliance and its mains cord in water or any

other liquid.
Always let the appliance cool down before you start cleaning it.

 1

 Unplug the appliance.

 2

Clean the outside of the appliance with a damp cloth.

Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or materials.

 3

Remove crumbs from the appliance by sliding the crumb tray out of

the appliance.  (Fig. 7)

 4

Remove crumbs from the bread baskets by taking the bread baskets

out of the appliance.

 5

Clean the removable parts, i.e. the crumb tray and the bread baskets,

separately with a moist cloth or in warm water with some

washing-up liquid.

Do not clean these parts in the dishwasher.

storage

 1

Let the appliance cool down completely before you store it.

 2
