Driving
• Use@ for normal driving.
Manual operation from® to@ or@ can
also be carried out.
• When rapid acceleration is required,
depress the accelerator pedal fully.
Even if the shift lever is in@, the trans­
mission will downshift automatically to
the 3rd gear or the 2nd gear depending
on vehicle speed.
• If the engine stalls while driving, restart it
with the transmission in@. It is, however,
advisable to start the engine in ® nor­
mally.
• When you drive on steep hills, downshift
for engine braking depending on road
conditions or vehicle speed.
WARNING
Be careful when downshlfting on slip­
pery or wet road. Failure to do so could
cause wheel lock or skid, and a loss of
control or an accident.
CAUTION

Shift to® or® after the vehicle has
completely stopped. If you shift the
gear while the vehicle is moving, the
transmission may be damaged.
Maximum allowable speeds
CAUTION
If your vehicle exceeds the maximum al­
lowable speeds given on the following
table, do not down shift. If this caution is
neglected, the engine could be damaged.

Brief stopping
Depress the brake pedal firmly with the shift
lever in the same range or in®.
If you stop for a long time, apply the parking
brake with the shift lever in ®
WARNING
If the brake pedal Is not firmly depressed
and the shift lever Is in the@,@,@ or
® the vehicle may tend to move.
To prevent sudden vehicle movement:
Apply the parking brake on an up­
hill grade.
Keep brake pedal depressed when
shifting from ® to other ranges.
