Fuel System Primary Filter/Water Separator - Drain

Typical example
1.
Locate the thread in the
fi
lter element (8) onto the
threads (9). Spin on the element. Do not tighten.
2.
Lubricate the O ring seal (7) with clean engine oil.
Do NOT
fi
ll the bowl with fuel before the assembly
is installed.
3.
Do not use a tool in order to install the
fi
lter
assembly. Tighten the
fi
lter bowl (6) by hand.
Install the
fi
lter bowl (6) and align with your
temporary marks (A).
4.
Tighten the valve (2) securely. Remove the
container and dispose of the fuel in a safe place.
5.
The secondary
fi
lter element must be replaced at
the same time as the primary
fi
lter element. Refer
to the Operation and Maintenance Manual , “Fuel
System Filter - Replace”.
In-line Strainer
The fuel system has an in-line strainer installed before
the electric priming pump. Perkins recommended
that the in-line strainer be replaced when required.
The location of the in-line strainer will depend on the
application.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or elec-
trical components can cause a
fi
re. To help pre-
vent possible injury, turn the start switch off when
changing fuel
fi
lters or water separator elements.
Clean up fuel spills immediately.
NOTICE
Ensure that the engine is stopped before any servicing
or repair is performed.
NOTICE
The water separator can be under suction during nor-
mal engine operation. Ensure that the drain valve is
tightened securely to help prevent air from entering
the fuel system.
1.
Place a suitable container under the water
separator in order to catch any
fl
uid that might
spill. Clean up any spilled
fl
uid.
2.
Ensure that the outer body of the
fi
lter assembly is
clean and free from dirt.
