Description
The PHC control module takes over the complete control of a PHC system.
The built-in status LED signals normal operating condition by its flashing. During the data
transmission the LED remains on.

Installation
The installation of the PHC modules may be carried out by authorised technicians only.
During installation the system‘s electricity has to be switched off. The PHC module is
designed for mounting on a 35mm top hat rail acc. EN 50022 in in-/on-wall distribution
housing. The devices can be mounted directly next to each other.
Attention!!
The PHC modules may
not
be employed in connection with devices that
may endanger people, animals or property when operated.
The following points must be observed:
- the valid laws, standards and regulations
- the technical state of the art during installation
- the PHC manual and the operating instructions of the PHC modules.
- the fact that operating instructions can only cover general regulations and that these
regulations must be considered in the context of the PHC system.
The following systems may not be switched by PHC output modules:
- safety switches such as EMERGENCY OFF
- emergency power supplies
- fire alarm systems
- emergency lighting systems
4.
Data connection (internal PHC bus)
The connection between PHC control unit and other PHC modules is established by the
PHC bus line and the modular connectors of the modules.
The module connectors are switched parallel in the modules except in the PHC power
supply and therefore freely selectable as in- or output. Thus the PHC module can be
positioned anywhere in the data line.
A PHC bus line of 30 cm length is included with every PHC module. It is needed for
connecting a neighbouring module or for connecting a module in the next distributor row.
The modules are supplied with voltage by the bus line. Power needs to be switched off
before disconnecting the bus line. The module bus can be additionally connected to screw
terminals, whereby the control module can also be used as bus distributor.
5. Coding switch
The control module‘s address is set by the coding switch built into the PHC control module.
The setting of the coding switch is presented in the PHC software under the menu item
„Components -> Modules“.
Make sure that no identical module addresses are given for PHC control modules. The
setting of the coding switch may be carried out by technicians only. For this the PHC module
needs to be switched off and it must be ensured that there can be no electrical discharge.
6. Programming interfaces
To connect a PC to the control module a
USB 1.1
interface or a serial
RS 232
interface
(mini-DIN or terminal block) can be used. A special connecting cable for the mini-DIN
socket is in included with the delivery.
During USB operation no PHC 24V power supply needs to be connected. In this case the
PHC control module is supplied with voltage by the PC and can therefore be programmed
independently from a PHC system. During normal operation a power supply is of course
necessary.
Attention!!
To use the USB interface a driver needs to be installed (available in the
Internet at www.peha.de).
7.
External PHC bus (RS 485)
The external connection serves to connect the control module with a PHC display, a PHC
converter or an additional PHC control module.
Up to 4 displays (941 DISPLAY) and 8 control modules (941 STM AN) can be used in
one PHC system. The PHC converter 940C can be used for the central programming
of the entire PHC system.
To connect to an external bus (RS485) a JY(ST)Y line is usually used. When connecting
the BUS line be sure that the lines A and B are not crossed. Power needs to be switched
off before disconnecting the bus line.
8.
Connecting the DCF receiver
The DCF receiver (art.no.: 941 DCF) can be connected to the DCF port. This dispenses
with setting the internal clock.
Attention!!
Maintain a distance of at least 50 cm between DCF receiver and control module.
9. Time synchronisation of several control modules
If several control modules are employed in a PHC system, then it may be useful to
synchronise the time in all control modules. One control module functions as master
and sends its time to all other control modules.
For that the check mark
„DCF 77 receiver connected“
needs to be activated at the
respective control module in the PHC system software (as of version 2.10).
Note:
This feature only functions in systems in which there are no older control modules
(940 STM or 940 STM AN).
10. Reset and boot button
If a reset of the control module becomes necessary, for instance after changing the
address, then you can press the reset button with a pointed object.
The boot button serves to activate the boot loader that is in the control module. With that
a firmware update can be loaded using a PC tool. Tool, updates as well as information
on firmware updates are available in the Internet at www.peha.de.
During firmware updates the PHC project in the control module is not deleted.
