Method of Checking Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR)
1. Disconnect power to the converter.
2. Remove the SCR from the circuit.
3. Identify the SCR terminals. See
Figure 9
.
4. Build a test fixture. See
Figure 10
.
5. Place the red lead and black lead across the SCR. See
Figure 10
.
No light should register. If the light comes on, the SCR is shorted.
6. If the light does not come on, momentarily, short the gate lead of the SCR to the anode stud and
remove. The light should come on and in many cases stay on. If the light comes on, the SCR is
good.
