IMPORTANT:
To achieve all of the superb bass performance that
your Paradigm
®
Special Edition subwoofer is equipped to offer, it is
important that you become familiar with its comprehensive Input/
Output and Control Facilities. Before connecting your subwoofer, read
the following sections carefully.
INPUT/OUTPUT FACILITIES
SUBWOOFER CONNECTION
We recommend the use of high-quality cables and connectors when hooking
up your subwoofer
(see dealer).
Line-Level (RCA) Input
Allows connection from the Sub/LFE Output of an A/V receiver, processor or
other suitable low-level source.
CONTROL FACILITIES
Auto-On/Standby or Always-On
Your subwoofer will turn on when it receives an input signal—eliminating the
need for a power switch. If no signal is sensed for a period of time, the
subwoofer will automatically switch off.
Subwoofer Level
Balances the subwoofer output level to your speakers.
For instructions on setting the Subwoofer Controls once your subwoofer
has been connected refer to the section on “Fine Tuning,” page 17.
Subwoofer Cut-Off and Bypass Option
Controls the subwoofer’s upper-frequency cut-off. This can be set to match
the low-frequency roll-off characteristics of your front speakers. For example,
if your front speakers play to approximately 80 Hz, you can set the subwoofer
cut-off frequency to approximately 80 Hz.
Bypass Option
allows you to bypass the subwoofer's built-in cut-off
control to let your preamp/processor's or receiver's internal bass manage-
ment system provide the crossover function.
Phase Alignment
Depending on where the subwoofer is placed in your room, there may be
bass frequency cancellation. This can occur because your subwoofer and
front speakers are out-of-phase—they work against each other through
their frequency overlap region. Bass is then reduced and may even sound
disjointed. This control accurately synchronizes your subwoofer and front
speakers through their bass frequency overlap region.
USB Port – PBK Ready
The USB port on your Paradigm
®
Special Edition subwoofer allows for
connection of the optional Paradigm Perfect Bass Kit
™
(PBK)
(sold separately,
see dealer).

SAFETY PRECAUTION: Before proceeding with this
section be sure to read and follow all safety precaution
and instruction notices at the beginning of this manual.
IMPORTANT!
Speakers set to “Large” with your A/V receiver or
processor will still be reproducing bass frequencies—be careful not to
overdrive them!
Turn all components OFF before connecting
the subwoofer.
