FRICTION DRIVE
The friction drive fitted to the take-up pulley (P) permits the rate of revolution
of the take-up spool to vary with the increasing diameter of the film on the
spool. Should this require adjustment proceed as follows
(a) Remove small knurled nut;
(b) Loosen grub screw;
(c) Unscrew slotted lock nut a few turns.
(d) Turn large knurled cylinder anti-clockwise to lighten tension
(e) Lock in position with nut and grub screw. (1) Replace small knurled nut.
All screw threads turn anti-clockwise to loosen.
WARNING
Excessive tightening of the take-up tension may damage sprocket hole
perforations.
NOTE
The friction drive is not fitted to the 8mm. projector as this is not essential for
400' spools.
MAINTENANCE
Periodically the projector should be treated to a light overhaul, by which is
meant general examination, lubrication, and cleaning. The Specto projector is
specially designed to provide free access to all parts where, at intervals,
attention may be required.
By removing the four knurled screws on the side of the projector marked
―Specto," the side cover plate may he removed to give access to the interior.
LAMP
The normal equipment is: 115 volt 500 watt biplane filament pre-focus cap
Class Al Projector lamp with black top. Lamps of other voltages may be fitted
for individual voltage requirements, in which case this will be indicated on the
projector name plate.
It is always advisable to keep a spare lamp. These invariably fail whilst in use,
and considerable embarrassment may be caused if the lamp fails during a
show and no replacement is available. Specto lamps are of the "pre- focus"
type; that is to say, the brass cap has two lugs, one wide and one narrow,
which ensure that the lamp is placed in the lamp holder in the only correct
way, and that it is correctly focused in the optical system.
