20.2. Demodulator stage

20.2.1.Analogue Sound I.F. - Input

The tuner/IF stage located on the main pcb
(E-Board) feeds the SIF signal, either Wagner
stereo or NICAM via amplifier transistors

before being input via pin 47 (ANA_IN1) of the

MSP

However this audio path differs slightly for models
which are able to process SECAM L standard. Here
two traps X101 and X102 are placed at the base of

these

6.5MHz

7.0MHz

respectively. With the addition of these two traps
D/K sound system follows a different path.
Here the D/K sound is fed from the tuner/IF stage
and input to the MSP

84, which when D/K sound is to be processed, goes
HIGH thus resulting in

If A.M. sound is being received this signal is firstly

demodulated in the I.F. stage before being passed to

is then fed to the MSP

NICAM which is a high quality stereo signal, uses
the

sound

coding

format

known

as

Near

Instantaneous

Companding

Audio

Multiplex

system, the NICAM system being added to the
already existing F.M. channel.
When in NICAM / FM mode there are three different
audio modes possible :

1.

NICAM - Stereo transmission

2.

Dual language transmission (where available)

3.

F.M. Mono

Information regarding the transmission type and
about the quality of the NICAM signal can be read by
the microprocessor

of low quality (high bit error rate) the microprocessor

can decide to switch to an analogue F.M.

mono sound signal.
