Setting Preferences for Your Handheld
Connection preferences
The Connection Preferences screen enables you to define the settings
used to perform different types of HotSync operations. The screen
displays a list of available configurations that are ready to be further
defined; the list varies depending on the kind of software you’ve
added to your handheld.
For example, a Palm V Modem connection appears on the list. If you
have this modem, you only need to specify the phone setup (and
network connection — if required) to complete the configuration.
Note: You can purchase a Palm V Modem for use with your
handheld. See
http://www.palm.com
.
You can also create custom configurations. There are four possible
kinds of connections.
Serial to PC:
A local HotSync connection: the direct
serial connection between your handheld and your
desktop computer. Your handheld is connected by
its serial port to the cradle, and the cradle is
attached by its cable to a serial (COM) port of your
desktop computer.
Serial to Modem:
A connection between a modem
attached to the serial port of your handheld and a
modem that is part of your computer or laptop.
IrCOMM to PC:
A connection between the IR port of
your handheld and the infrared device of your
computer or laptop.
IrCOMM to Modem:
A connection between the IR
port of your handheld and a modem. The modem
can be attached to a computer or some other device
containing an IR port.
