4.1: CARD SETTING ON BATTERY CHARGER WITHOUT BATTERY
Material required:
•
DC voltage generator from 0V to 150V (e.g. PBM SLV150)
•
digital voltmeter to measure DC voltages ranging from 0V to 400V
•
thin screwdriver to make adjustments
Procedure:
•
Disable the AUTOSTART function removing the AS5s and/or AS3h jumpers
•
Warning
: disabling the AUTOSTART function is necessary to prevent the battery charger from feeding
power to the stabilized power supply thus damaging it.
•
Connect the battery charger to mains.
•
Power the charger from the voltage generator by means of the charging cables, after adjusting the voltage
generator to the desired voltage threshold.
•
For a lead battery with a rated voltage of 48V (24 cells x 2,00V/cell) the voltage threshold generally
corresponds to 2,4V/cell +0,3V, equalling the average
drop value
on the charging cables during the
charging process. Therefore, the battery input voltage must be 2,40 x 24 + 0.3 = 57.9 Volts.
•
Use a thin screwdriver to turn the
VGAS
trimmer on the
PBM753
card counter-clockwise until the yellow
LD4
LED lights up. If the LED is already lit, turn the
VGAS
trimmer clockwise until the LED light goes off,
then turn it counter-clockwise until it lights up again.
Warning : to avoid damaging the power supply, be careful not to push the ON-OFF button.
NOTE
: If the
yellow L2
LED remains lit longer than 10 seconds, it means that the charger has permanently
switched to the final charge stage (the LED light will not go off any more, even if the battery voltage falls below
2.40V/cell).
In this case reset the mains and make the procedure again.
CHAPTER 5: BATTERY CHARGER FUNCTIONS
•
QUICK TEST
:
by connecting a jumper to
J2
at
TV
the control SW accelerates all the timers such as the
safety timer, final charge timer and equalisation times. This function is useful for quick overall check of the
battery charger working cycle.
•
FINAL CHARGE of 4h
:
connecting a jumper on
J2
at
CF4h
lengthens the final charge time from 3h to 4h
.
•
AS5:
connecting a jumper on
J2
at
AS5s
enables the automatic charging start function (AUTOSTART) 5
sec. after the battery has been connected.
•
AS3h:
connecting a jumper on
J2
at
AS3h
enables the automatic charging start function (AUTOSTART) 3
hours after the battery has been connected.
•
PROPORTIONAL CHARGE
: connecting a jumper on
J2
at
CPR
enables the proportional charge by which, if
the battery reaches the gassing threshold within the first 20 minutes of charging, the final charge is carried
out for 10 minutes. This function is to protect the battery already charged and recharged another time by
mistake.
•
If the electronic card PBM753 detects the reaching of the
final charge
thresold ( yellow led lighting )
within the first 20 minutes
, the charge goes on for other 10 minutes ( total 20+10 = 30 minutes max )
and then it finally stops showing “ charge completed “ through the green led.
•
If it is not so the charge continues until it reaches the final charge thresold and goes on for 3 hours (or the
time set ) and, to follow the equalization charge (if programmed).
•
CI11h
: connecting a jumper on
J2
at
CI11h
sets the safety timer at the first stage at 11h
•
CEQ:
connecting a jumper on
J2
at
CEQ
activates the equalisation and floating function.
