FAILURE
POSSIBLE CAUSES
REMEDIES AND/OR CHECKS TO BE PERFORMED
THE CUT-OUT SWITCH ON
THE PANEL OPERATES
- Little power available
- Short-circuited
components
1) Make sure that the power (kW) available at customer
site is suitable for that needed by the charger.
2) Check the efficiency of the auxiliary transformer (TA).
3) Check that the coil of the TL contactor is not burnt or
short-circuited.
4) Check the Main Transformer (TR), making sure that
there are neither short-circuited nor burnt windings.
5) Make sure that the rectifier bridge
*
(RD) is not short-
circuited.
6) Check that charger does not deliver too much current
(see the above-mentioned information).
7) If after a few minutes the cut-out switch on the panel
operates, check the switch installed since the charger
is a particularly heavy load from an electrical point of
view.
It is suggested to use automatic and/or differential cut-
outs as protections of battery chargers with operation
characteristics suitable for the specific load (
K and D
curves
).
BURNT FUSE ON CARD
- Defective card or wrong
power supply of the
card.
1) Make sure that the voltage battery is correct ;
see
Jumper J10 position.
2) Replace the PBM753 card.
BURNT OUTPUT FUSE ON
BATTERY SIDE
- Polarity reversal
- Defective and/or short-
circuited components
1) Check that polarity of the output cables and on battery
connector is correct (polarity reversal may occur when
maintenance is performed and/or cables and/or battery
connectors are replaced).
2) Check that battery charger does not deliver too much
current (see the above-mentioned information).
3) Make sure that the rectifier bridge* (RD) is not short-
circuited.
THE CHARGER DOES NOT
“STOP” AT THE END OF
CHARGING
- Card setting not correct
- Battery not in good
condition
- Defective card
1) Check the condition of each single battery cell, making
sure that there are not short-circuited cells or cells with
a very low voltage.
2) Make sure that the card threshold voltage corresponds
to the reference voltage (2,4V/cell).
3) Check efficiency of timers on the card performing proof
tests as explained in the relevant instructions.
4) Replace the PBM753 card.
THE CHARGER DETECTS
AND SIGNALS AN
"ALARM" CONDITION (refer
to chp. 7/8)
- Overall check
1) Check the different components depending on the
alarm signalled and follow the above-mentioned
information.
