ORB Tools
Once the ORB Tools is properly installed, you can launch from its alias or the folder
in the hard drive where it was installed.
The utilities provide the following functions:
Under Bus Hierarchy:
Status –
Display not only the SCSI bus the ORB drive is connected to and its SCSI
ID, but also other applicable computer buses (ATA, SCSI, USB).
Under Volumes Tab:
Mount / Unmount Volume –
mount/unmount the drive on/from the Desktop.
Eject Media –
Eject the disk from the drive.
Under Media Prep Tab:
Initialize –
Set up drive for use with Macintosh or DOS file systems. Create
multiple partitions and format drive.
Verify –
Check the media for errors. There are three levels of verification: light (read
only), medium (read and write) and full (destructive write).
Update –
Update the driver on media to the latest and greatest. This is not applica-
ble if grayed out.
Under Settings Tab:
Spin Down Timer –
Set your preference for spin down time.
Write Protect Drive –
Prevent modification to media in the drive.
Drive Operating Mode –
Set the drive to Write Verify mode for extra level of data
protection or two A/V Modes (authoring and streaming) for A/V recording.
You can also download ORB Power Tools developed by MacMedic from our website
www.castlewood.com. This suite of tools includes the following functions: Disk
Exam, Backup, Data Recovery, Defragmentation, and Space Maker (HFS to HFS+).
1.15 CONNECTING THE ORB DRIVE TO A SCSI BUS
If you have devices other than your ORB SCSI Drive on the same SCSI bus, you
need to go through this section carefully.
1. Power OFF your computer and all the attached devices.
Warning! Always turn OFF power to protect yourself from
injury and your equipment from damage.
2. Identify SCSI IDs of all devices on the same SCSI bus your ORB
SCSI Drive will be connected to.
A SCSI ID is an integer, ranging from 0 to 15, each identifies a SCSI device on the same
SCSI bus.
