Green Screen technique is a somewhat technical subject, and it is highly advisable to learn general
Chroma Keying techniques and best practices before using OCCO’s DACK at a critical commercial event.
The idea behind OCCO’s DACK is simple yet very powerful – substituting a green (or any other color)
background with a desired image while animating that image in response to the position of human
subjects on the physical scene. This animation is what makes OCCO’s Green Screen technique so unique
and powerful. As the head is tracking the subjects, OCCO’s software substitutes a different portion of
the background template image. For example, you can have a wide panoramic green screen, or even a
“green room” – and as people walk across the “green environment” – they see themselves walking in a
“virtual environment” on OCCO’s screen. This “virtual environment” a JPG file you chose for that
particular activation, and the larger are the dimensions of that JPG file – the more dramatic is the
animation. Once people pose, and OCCO snaps a picture - the final image contains the part of the
background users chose to pose in front of.
Green Screen Technique
We cannot possibly include a general Green Screen tutorial in the context of this manual. There are
numerous excellent sources on the web in both written and video formats, and most of the techniques
discussed for video production apply well to OCCO. However, we will mention a few most important
rules.
1. Green Screen has to be illuminated evenly from at least two sides. There should be no bright
spots or great difference in brightness across the screen. The quality of light is more important
than the brand of the green screen.
2. Green screen material has to be reasonably smooth, have no sharp wrinkles, and should usually
be stretched (vs hanging like a curtain).
