Planning A Location
Location plays a key role in a smooth-running modem
operation. In addition to being able to use the modem more
effectively, it aids in troubleshooting. Components should be
easy to access and clearly visible.
Easy Access.
You should be able to get to the modem
easily – especially if you have a portable service and plan
to move the modem from vehicle to vehicle. Easy
access also helps in troubleshooting.
Clearly Visible.
You should have an easy view
of the
modem
status lights (LEDs).
Distance Between Connections.
The distance between connections affects performance,
especially the distance between the modem and antenna. The shorter the distance
between these components, the better the signal.
Heat.
Placing the modem, antenna or cables near a heat source can cause several
problems, including radio interference. Select a location away from a source of heat and
make sure the modem has at least a 1-inch clearance on all sides for cooling.
In your planning, you should select appropriate placements for the modem and antenna.
The following sections provide tips for modem and antenna locations.
