Configuring the Norstar system
To ensure that the VoIP Gateway functions as expected, you need configure the Norstar system to
operate with the VoIP Gateway. This section describes what configuration needs to done on the
Norstar system. This section also provides some example configurations.

Configuring your Norstar KSU
The Norstar KSU connects to the VoIP Gateway using analog loop start trunks. From the Norstar
perspective, the VoIP Gateway responds like a PSTN.
Required Norstar hardware
The minimum hardware required is a loop start trunk card with disconnect supervision. If you
want CLID information provided to the Norstar from the VoIP Gateway, you need a loop start
trunk card that supports disconnect supervision and Calling Line ID.
The Digit Delivery Table feature uses auto answer trunks to implement dialing through to the
destination target line. In order to use the Digit Delivery Table feature, DTMF tone receivers must
be available on the target Norstar system. DTMF receivers are provided with a Services Card,
Combo Card or E&M trunk card.
Configuring the trunks
You must configure t
he loop start trunks that are connected to the VoIP Gateway as follows:

Parameter Setting
Line type: If the lines are shared for outgoing calls, assign the lines to their own line pool.
If the lines are dedicated to specific users, do not assign the lines to a line pool.
Dial Mode: Tone
Prime set: If the lines are shared, assign this parameter to set 221 or the receptionist set.
If the lines are dedicated to specific users, configure this parameter to the set that the
line is configured to appear on.
Trunk Mode: Supervised
Answer Mode: If the lines are shared for incoming calls, set this parameter to Auto Answer to allow
target line access.
If the lines are dedicated to specific users, set this parameter to Manual Answer.
