About SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is the standard for network
management that uses a common software agent to manage local and wide
area network equipment from different vendors; part of the Transmission
Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite as defined in RFC115.
SNMPv1 is version one, the original standard protocol. SNMPv3 is a
combination of proposal updates to SNMP, most of which deal with security.
Configuring SNMPv1
You can configure SNMPv1 read/write and read-only community strings,
enable or disable trap mode settings, and/or enable or disable the
autotopology feature. The autotopology feature, when enabled, performs a
process that recognizes any device on the managed network and defines
and maps its relation to other network devices in real time.
To configure the community string, trap mode, and autotopology settings
and features, use the following procedure:
