Operation
WARNING
S
Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following
tasks. Follow the safety instructions in this document
and all other related documentation.
S
High pressure fluids are extremely dangerous. Do not
place any part of your body in front of a dispensing
device, drain, or leak in a high pressure system. A jet
of high fluid can cause serious injury, toxic poisoning,
or death. Relieve system and material pressure
before disconnecting hoses.
S
Do not remove any covers during operation. The
moving parts under these covers could cause injury.
S
Heated Versions—To prevent damage to the seals
and O-rings, do not exceed the maximum operating
temperature of 200
_
F (93
_
C).
Operation of the SDS meter is dependent upon the
system configuration. Refer to your system manual or
contact your Nordson representative for information
about individual component operations.
Startup
Make sure all fittings, connections, and covers are
tightened securely.
1. Set the air pressure on the main air input filter to
60 psi (4.14 bar) minimum.
2. Turn on and cycle the Rhino unloader pumps. Refer
to your Rhino unloader documentation for more
information.
3. Start the controller. Refer to your controller system
documentation for more information.
4. Start the water circulation for temperature
conditioning.
5. Wait until the system reaches the required material
dispensing temperature.
6. Purge the material. Refer to the Purge Samples
section for more information.
Purge Samples
If the component weight of a full stroke purge sample is
low, perform the following:
1. Look for material leaking from the system.
2. Thoroughly inspect the system to pinpoint and
eliminate leaks.
If the component weight of a full stroke purge sample is
high, perform the following:
1. A leaky inlet valve may be allowing material to flow
through during the purge, rather then metering it.
Check the inlet valve and its solenoids for proper
operation. Replace these parts if necessary.
2. If you suspect that air is trapped inside the metering
cylinder, evacuate the air by running the entire
system until it delivers a continuous flow of material.
NOTE:
The system cannot be bled. Trapped air
must be pumped through the system and out
of the SDS meter. Material passages in the
cylinder aid in evacuating trapped air.
3. If the results are still not within the limits, contact your
Nordson representative.
Shutdown
1. Turn off and bleed the pressure from the Rhino
unloader pumps. Refer to your Rhino bulk unloader
manual for more information.
2. Bleed the pressure from the material cylinder.
3. Turn off the temperature conditioned water circulation
system.
4. Turn off the controller.
