Field Diaphragm
The field diaphragm restricts the illumination light to the
area on the specimen to be observed. Operating the field
diaphragm ring changes the size of the field diaphragm.
For normal observation, the size of the diaphragm should
be such that it is just outside the edge of the viewfield.
If a broader area than necessary is illuminated, stray light
will enter the optical system, creating flaring, reducing the
contrast of the optical image. The operation of the field
diaphragm is especially important in photomicrography;
generally, the best results are obtained by stopping down
the field diaphragm to just slightly larger than the image
area or the area that will be reproduced on the film, that is,
the size of the picture composition frame (for a digital
camera, the size of the CCD).

Stage
You can adjust the rotation torques (rotation resistances) of the stage movement knobs for the X-axis
and for the Y-axis. To adjust them, move the stage to the edge of the movement. It makes the
adjustment easy.
Torque adjustment for the Y-axis
To increase the torque, rotate the knob B in the arrow a
direction while holding the knob A. To decrease the torque,
rotate the knob B in the opposite direction while holding
the knob A.
Torque adjustment for the X-axis
To increase the torque, rotate the knob C in the arrow b
direction while holding the knob D. To decrease the
torque, rotate the knob C in the opposite direction while
holding the knob D. When you hold the knob D, put your
finger on the lower hole of the knob D.
