Feature Summary
5.2.1
TCP Enhancement
The TelliNet application module TCP Enhancement allows efficient and reliable data transmission over
high delay or lossy networks. Enhanced TCP (ETCP) is especially designed to speed up the
transmission over networks with high delay or with packet loss that is unrelated to network congestion,
thereby maintaining a high reliability and providing optional features such as encryption and
compression of data during transmission. TCP, UDP, raw IP or any link layer protocol can be used as
underlying network or link protocol.
5.2.2
HTTP Prefetching
TelliNet HTTP Prefetching enhances HTTP data transfer by adding server based prefetching and push
technology to normal HTTP traffic, resulting in drastically increased web traffic performance.
Most web pages do not consist of a single HTML file but of multiple objects and frames, which have to
be requested separately. As web browsers normally request 4 objects at a time and the round trip time
over satellite links is extremely high, long waiting times result for web pages retrieved over satellite
connections. Using patent pending technology, TelliNet HTTP Prefetching implements a distributed
HTTP proxy infrastructure that consists of a NOP1830 PEP-Box Gateway Proxy and a NOP1840 PEP-
Box Server Proxy, with a potentially high-delay (e.g. satellite) network in between. This allows the
Server Proxy to scan all HTML files passed via satellite to the NOP1830 PEP-Box Gateways for
referenced sub objects. Since the NOP1840 PEP-Box Server Proxy is directly connected to the Internet
via low latency (e.g. terrestrial) links, these objects can be retrieved very fast and pushed to the
NOP1830 often long before the web-browser has received the main object and finds out that it is going
to need these objects as well.
The HTTP Prefetching mechanisms are adapted to up-to-date technology, dealing with HTTP Cookies,
JavaScript, style sheets and other code that may include embedded objects and links.
5.2.3
Authentication
This module allows restricting the utilization of a service to paying customers only and provides data for
accounting purposes.
When using TelliNet Authentication, users can be forced to log in with a user name and password. In
addition, host keys are available that make it possible to restrict the utilization of the service to a
specific client host or DVB box/card. Users can be temporarily or definitively excluded from the service
and new users can be added without service interruption. Authentication is possible via user name and
password.
