Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) Code
Forwarding
In some special cases it is useful that TelliNet does DSCP Code Forwarding, e.g. if a shaping device
between the TelliNet Server and Clients is based on DSCP code rules.
But please note that TelliNet may lose some of its packet aggregation bandwidth reduction capabilities
if DSCP Code Forwarding is used. This is due to the fact that incoming small data packets with
different DSCP code cannot be aggregated to one data packet. For each DSCP code used packet
aggregation is done separately.
TelliNet will also need additional CPU power for DSCP Code Forwarding.
4.6.1
Functionality
If DSCP Code Forwarding is activated, the DSCP code of incoming data packets is used by TelliNet for
sending the data packets between the TelliNet Server and TelliNet Client and also for data packets
forwarded to the final destination.
E.g. for a web request, the TelliNet Client will forward the request of the web browser with the DSCP of
the request to the TelliNet Server. The TelliNet Server will then forward the request to web servers with
the same DSCP. HTTP Prefetching requests of the TelliNet Server for the incoming request are also
sent to the web servers with the DSCP of the request from the web browser.
The DSCP code used by the web server to send the requested data is then used by the TelliNet Server
to forward the data to the TelliNet Client. The TelliNet Client is forwarding the data with the same DSCP
code to the final destination.
