5.2.4
Transparent Capturing
TelliNet Transparent Capturing allows using TelliNet transparent to the end user application. This
eases the handling at NOP1830 PEP-Box Gateway side as it is not necessary to configure the end
user applications (e. g. web browsers) to use TelliNet as a proxy. With Transparent Capturing
activated, TelliNet can also be used to handle data from applications that cannot be configured to use
a proxy.
When the module Transparent Capturing is activated, all TCP connections sent over a configurable
interface will automatically be handled by TelliNet. Data that shall not be subject to TCP Enhancement
is forwarded transparently, TelliNet acting alternatively like a router or a switch.
HTTP Prefetching and SMB Enhancement can also be used in combination with the Transparent
Capturing functionality. The NOP1830 PEP-Box Gateway can be configured to automatically
distinguish between HTTP, SMB, and other TCP connections and apply the extended enhancement
mechanisms accordingly.
5.2.5
SMB Enhancement
SMB File Sharing is based on protocols that require an especially high number of round trip times and
therefore amplify the problems encountered on high latency networks.
TelliNet SMB Enhancement is providing SMB specific enhancement mechanisms that allow the
reduction of download times for SMB files far beyond the improvements reached by normal TCP
enhancement mechanisms.
5.2.6
TelliNet / TelliShape Feedback
This functionality supports shaping on basis of original IP / port (source and destination) and protocol(s).
The users’ demand for broadband Internet connections requires a provider to overbook the available
capacity and to apply traffic shaping policies – leading to IP packets to be dropped. As a result the
effective throughput decreases whereas packet retransmissions cause additional traffic. Furthermore if
an encrypted tunnel is established between two sites, the traffic shaper can no longer distinguish
between VoIP, TCP and other traffic types. TelliNet and TelliShape are capable of preventing packet
drops and you benefit from all acceleration mechanisms even for encrypted traffic.
5.2.7
Data Compression
During transmission data may be automatically compressed (RFC 1951, DEFLATE). The compression
is done "on the fly" resulting in a continual data transmission, without transmission delays as caused by
other systems compressing whole files before starting the transmission.
The system can be configured to compress all data during transmission as well as configuring HTTP
and FTP compression depending on file name extensions or content types.
