Select
Layer 2 Failure Timer (seconds)
and enter a value in seconds, for example, 30 seconds.
Sometimes this timer is referred to as “Quick Check”, and is used to specify a shor ter amount of time
spent attempting to recover, reducing network downtime.
The Layer 2 Failure Timer specifies the amount of time the router spends determining whether layer 2 is up
on the primar y inter face. For instance, if you set the Layer 2 Failure Timer to 30 seconds, the router, when
it tears down the backup connection to check the primar y, will spend 30 seconds in primar y mode,
checking to see if layer 2 is up. Setting
Layer 2 Failure Timer
to zero will cause it to be equal to the
Requires Failure Of
value. The suggested number of seconds to set for the Layer 2 Failure Timer will var y,
based on the type of primar y connection. This is because some primar y connections take longer to come
up than others (for example, RFC1483 bridged vs. PPP with PAP authentication). The maximum allowed
setting for the
Layer 2 Failure Timer
is 65535.

Select
Clear Backup Call only if idle
. The default Yes will prevent the backup call from being torn down if
there is activity on the backup connection when the primar y connection comes back up. You can toggle this
to No if you wish.
The
Clear Backup Call only if Idle
timer is a separate timer from the
Requires Recovery of (minutes)
timer. The router will first reach the Requires Recover y of (minutes) counter and count down to zero. Then
the router will consult the Clear Backup Call only if Idle timer to learn if the backup connection has been
idle for the specified seconds. If the connection has been idle for the specified seconds, then the teardown
process of the backup connection will begin.

Requires idle time of (seconds)
specifies how long the device should wait before permitting the call to be
torn down after a period of inactivity.

Data Link Encapsulation
is set to Async PPP. This field is not editable.
