Using the H0 shelf mode
You initiate the H0 shelf mode manually when you want to visually identify a specific disk shelf in
a system.
About this task
For DS4486 disk shelves, you can enter the H0 shelf mode while the shelf is in the H1 shelf mode.
When you exit the H0 shelf mode, the shelf reverts to the H1 shelf mode and H1 shelf mode LED
behavior.
Information about the H1 shelf mode can be found in the
What the disk carrier LEDs and H1 shelf
mode mean for DS4486 disk shelves section.
Steps
1. Initiate the H0 shelf mode by entering the following command at the console (of either
controller in an HA pair).
storage shelf identify adapter_name.shelfshelf_ID on
storage shelf identify 2a.shelf5 on
The following takes place once H0 shelf mode is initiated:
•
The shelf digital display alternates between flashing
H0 with the shelf ID number.
•
The green and amber LEDs on the disk drives or carriers of the specified shelf blink in
unison.
•
The power supply and I/O module (IOM) amber LEDs blink in unison.
•
An EMS message,
shelf.identify.start
is generated to confirm that the H0 shelf
mode has initiated.
Note: If a FRU or disk drive or carrier has faulted, its amber LED remains solid.
2. Exit the H0 shelf mode by entering the following command at the console (of either controller
in an HA pair).
storage shelf identify adapter_name.shelfshelf_ID off
storage shelf identify 2a.shelf5 off
The following takes place once the disk shelf has exited the H0 shelf mode:
•
The shelf digital display only shows the shelf ID number.
•
The LEDs on the disk drives or carriers, power supplies, and IOMs revert to their behavior
prior to issuing the command in Step 1.
•
An EMS message,
shelf.identify.stop
is generated to confirm that the disk shelf has
exited the H0 shelf mode.
Monitoring the operator display panel
You can monitor the health of your disk shelf and its components by familiarizing yourself with
the location of the operator display panel LEDs, their meanings, and the error messages that can
occur when there is a problem.
Location of the operator display panel LEDs
The LEDs on the disk shelf front operator display panel indicate whether your disk shelf is
functioning normally or there are problems with the hardware.
The following illustration shows an operator display panel and the location of the three LEDs.
Depending on your disk shelf model, the operator display panel might look slightly different, but
the LEDs are the same.
