bytes.
landscape orientation
See orientation.
LocalTalk
A physical cabling system used to link
computers and peripheral devices in an AppleTalk
network system.
LocalTalk connector
A piece of equipment consisting
of a small box with a built-in cable that links a device to
a LocalTalk cable system.
lpi
Lines per inch. A measure of how many lines are
printed in an inch of text.
Macintosh
A line of computers, computer products,
and peripheral devices produced by Apple Computer,
Inc.
MacOS
An operating system developed by Apple
Computer, Inc., and used by Macintosh and Macintosh-
compatible computers.
macro
A small program that executes a combination of
commands.
MB
An abbreviation for megabyte, i.e., one million
bytes.
memory overflow
A printer error that occurs when the
available printer RAM is not sufficient to process the
current print job.
Mini-DIN-8 interface
A connector on the printer to
which you attach a LocalTalk cable from your
Macintosh computer.
MS-DOS
Microsoft Disc Operating System. An
operating system developed by Microsoft.
multipurpose feeder
A printer feeder you can use for
printing envelopes, transparencies, labels, or heavy
paper stock
network
A system (and any software that supports it)
linking multiple computers and peripheral devices.
offline
The state in which the printer cannot accept or
print out data.
offset tray
An option you can purchase for the
Silentwriter 1760/1765. It holds up to 500 sheets of
output paper and sorts jobs by shifting them 2.8 cm.
online
The state in which the printer can accept and
print out data.
operating system
The computer program or group of
programs that controls the basic operation of the
computer and its peripheral devices.
operator buttons
Buttons on the printer operator panel
that you use to control the printer and change settings.
operator panel
The user interface on your printer. It
contains an LCD status display that shows status and
alert messages; LED indicator lights; and operator
buttons you use to control the printer and change
printer settings.
Orientation
Orientation describes the position of
images on a page with respect to the long and short
edges of the paper. Portrait orientation means the page
is taller than wide as you view the text upright.
Landscape orientation means the page is wider than tall
as you view the text upright.
