Improperly tensioned or lubricated
chains may either break or increase the risk of
kickbacks.
- Keep the handles dry, clean and free from oil
and grease.
Greasy and oily handles are slippery
and may result in the loss of control.
- Only cut wood. Only use the chainsaw
for work which complies with its intended
purpose. Example: do not use the chainsaw
for cutting plastic, masonry or building
materials which are not made of wood.
Using
the chainsaw for unintended purposes may lead
to dangerous situations.
Reasons for kickbacks and how to avoid them:
Kickbacks may occur when the tip of the chain
guide touches an object or when the wood
bends and the saw chain is wedged in the cut.
Touching an object with the tip of the chain
guide may in some cases result in a backwards
directed reaction with the chain guide moving
upwards and towards the operator.
If the saw chain is stuck in the upper edge of the
chain guide, the guide may easily be kicked back
towards the operator.
Each of these situations may make you lose
control of the saw and cause severe injury. Do
not only rely on the safety devices incorporated
in the chainsaw. As the user of the chainsaw,
you should take different precautions to avoid
accidents and injury.
Kickbacks are the result of the incorrect or
improper use of the power tool. Kickbacks can
be avoided by taking appropriate precautions as
listed below:
- Hold the saw with both hands with your
thumb and finger encircling the handles of the
chainsaw. Place your body and your arms in
a position which allows you to withstand any
kickback forces.
If appropriate precautions are
taken, the operator will be in a position to control
the kickback forces. Never release the chainsaw.
- Avoid abnormal postures and do not cut above
shoulder height. In this way, unintended contact
with the saw guide tip can be avoided and better
control of the chainsaw in unexpected situations
ensured.
- Only use spare guides and saw chains
recommended by the manufacturer. Inadequate
spare guides and saw chains may break the chain
or cause kickbacks.
-Sharpen and maintain the saw chain in
compliance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Depth limiters which are adjusted too low will
increase the risk of kickbacks.
4.7 Further important notes
- Use a residual current circuit breaker with a
release current of max. 30mA.
- Make sure that the mains cable is not caught by
branches or similar objects during cutting.
- Particularly persons using the chainsaw for the
first time should practice cutting log wood on a
sawbuck or a frame.
- Attention! Local regulations may restrict the use
of the pole-mounted trimming chainsaw.
- Make sure to attend a training session before
using the chainsaw.
