3.7.3 Artefacts
Shrinkage
During the fixing routine, the fabric is exposed to high heat for a long time which may shrink
the fabric. The allowed shrinkage of a fabric is person and job dependent. As standard we
take a maximum of 1-3%. If the fabric shrinks too much, try
decreasing the heat fixation
unit temperature by 10°C .
Ghosting
1) General info
Ghosting is an unintended faint image around printed areas. Ghosting can appear because of
2 reasons:
The dryer temperature is too low.
Not all the water was evaporated before the fabrics went over the heat fixation unit. The
water will transform into steam because of the heat fixation unit heat. The steam takes
along a part of the colorant and is responsible for possible ghosting.
The heat fixation unit temperature is too high.
If the heat fixation unit is set too hot, part of the colorant may become volatile and is not
properly retained by the fabric. This also shows up as ghosting.

Be sure that the fabric you are buying has been pre-shrunk / heatset.
