USING YOUR FIREPLACE
IMPORTANT: BEFORE ASSEMBLING OR USING YOUR FIREPLACE FOR
THE FIRST TIME
• Always position your fireplace on a firm and level surface.
• Follow all operating & safety instructions in this manual prior to
using your fireplace.
• The fireplace should be kept covered and dry at all times when not
in use.
• In particularly cold regions where snow and ice may be present, the
fireplace must be covered and protected from the elements. Never
operate the fireplace if ice has collected on the body or flue.
FUEL TYPE & LOADING
• This fireplace is designed to burn wood only.
• Do not burn charcoal or briquettes.
• The fireplace is designed to burn small logs (approx. 100 mm in
diameter or less) and a total wood load not exceeding 1 kg. Exceeding
this recommendation may damage the fireplace.
FIRST FIRING
When using the fireplace for the first time, always start with a small
fire and allow this to run until the initial firewood load is burnt
through. This will assist the fireplace materials to cure and settle.
Excessive firewood when starting will cause excessive smoke.
STARTING THE FIRE
• Use a small amount of kindling and fire starters or wadded news-
paper to get the fire started. Ensure the fire is burning well before
adding more firewood.
• Once the kindling is well alight, you can slowly start to add some
more firewood and allow the fire to build naturally.
• Never overload the fireplace. Sufficient heat will be radiated from
the fireplace with just a small load of firewood.
EXTINGUISHING THE FIRE
DO NOT use cold water to extinguish the flames as this may damage
the fireplace.
Generally, the fire should always be allowed to die out naturally.
However, if immediate shutdown of the fire is required, use sand to
smother the flames. As a safety precaution, always remember that
coals can remain hot and glowing for a few days.
When emptying the fireplace for cleaning or maintenance, always use
a steel bucket to retain leftover coals and sand.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
• Never clean the fireplace when it is hot or still contains hot coals.
• Always allow the fireplace to cool completely before cleaning or
maintenance.
• Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners, sprays or highly abrasive
cleaning tools.
• Do not use high-pressure water blasting devices to clean the sur-
faces of the fireplace body as this may damage or remove the surface
coating.
• Always check any cleaning product on a small area of the underside
of the product to confirm it is safe to use.
AFTER EACH USE
• Empty the sand and any debris from fireplace into a metal contain-
er or bucket.
• Remove any debris from the sand. Sand may be reused but avoid
using sand that is wet or damp as this will increase the rate of corro-
sion in the fire bowl.
• Gently clean the fireplace with a damp sponge using a mild deter-
gent and warm water.
• Rinse off the fireplace body with clean water and allow to dry.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
• The fireplace should be inspected to ensure it is not cracked or
split. In the event that the fireplace is cracked or split, it should be
replaced.
STORAGE
When not in use, the fireplace must be protected from exposure to
extreme elements. Cover the fireplace at all times when not in use
or move the fireplace to a covered outdoor space or store it in a dry
environment, for example, a garage or suitable storage space.
