ANNUALLY 

Perform the following annually, or whenever the integrity of the PFD 
is in doubt:

•   Perform a thorough inspection. Refer to the “Every Three Months” 

section.

•   Perform the Leak Test in the “Every Three Months” section.

•   Clean the PFD. Check for dirt and corrosion and replace all 

corroded parts. See “Cleaning and Stowage of Your PFD,” page 21.

•   Record as an “Annual” inspection in permanent ink on the Service 

Record label on the PFD. Repack the PFD as outlined in the 
repacking section, page 14.

EVERY FIVE YEARS 

•   Perform a thorough inspection. Refer to the “Every Three Months”  

section.

•   Test the auto-inflation mechanism (see “Inflating Your PFD,” page 7) 

by submerging the device in at least four inches of water. The device 
should inflate within five seconds.

•   Perform the Leak Test in the “Every Three Months” section.

•   Clean the PFD. Check for dirt and corrosion and replace all 

corroded parts. See “Cleaning and Stowage of Your PFD,” page 21.

•   Record as an “Annual” inspection in permanent ink on the Service 

Record label on the PFD. Write an asterisk (*) next to the date to 
mark each five year inspection.

Re-arm and repack the PFD as outlined in the re-arming (page 10) 
and repacking (page 14) sections.
