Calibration

Gas for Tests and Calibration

Test Gas:
Calibration gas of a known concentration at or close to the TLV for the target gas
Zero Gas:
Fresh air or synthetic air

The test plug is inserted, the selected operating mode is calibration (CALIBR.), the green LED is off. 
This operating mode does not apply for the FMK 9002 for oxygen (for O2 continue with section 5.3). 

Note

: Be sure to use a proper size screwdriver to prevent damaging the instrument.

5.1

Zero Adjustment

(Does not apply to FMK 9002 for oxygen)

Expose the FMK 9002 to Zero gas

-

Allow the reading on the digital display to stabilize. If a new sensor has just been installed, it may 
take a few minutes

-

Press and hold the button "4 mA/Zero" while turning the adjustment (Zero) with a srewdriver until 
the digital display reads all zeros

Deviations however are acceptable, since the FMK 9002 automatically adjusts to a higher sensitivity.

5.2

Span Adjustment with Calibration Gas

(Does not apply to FMK 9002 for oxygen)

Place the calibration cap (P/N 8600-4002) over the sensor and start the calibration gas flow 

 

(flow volume approx. 18 l/h or 300 ccm/min)

-

Allow the reading on the digital display to stabilize

-

Turn the span adjustment (SPAN) with a screwdriver until the reading on the digital display 

  

matches the concentration of the calibration gas

-

Remove calibration gas and calibration cap

-

Allow several minutes for the sensor to "clear". Check and readjust the zero reading as required 

 

(see section 5.1 above)

-

Press the button "MONITOR/CALIBR" to return to the monitoring mode.

Note

:

If a high degree of accuracy in monitoring is required, monthly calibrations with calibration gas of a
known concentration are recommended. The frequency of sensor tests should be determined by the
application and can be performed whenever required with test gas from lecture bottles, available at
major gas suppliers.

5.3

Span Adjustment for Oxygen Sensors

Selected FMK 9002 operating mode is monitor (MONITOR)

-

The green LED is lit

-

The FMK 9002 oxygen sensor can always be calibrated in fresh air  (O2 - content 20.9 %-vol). 
Turn the span adjustment (SPAN) with a srewdriver until the reading on the  digital display shows 
the concentration value of 20.9 %-vol.
