HTP-1 Installation and User Guide Release 1.8.1
The volume control used by the Dirac program is the same control used by the remote. The remote
control is able to adjust the volume while the Dirac Live tool is connected. The volume set in the Dirac
program remains when you exit the Dirac program.
Uncalibrated channels are handled somewhat differently. Dirac tends to discourage using a calibration
made for one set of speakers with a different set of speakers. We retain the concept that uncalibrated
channels are passed through. For example, a calibration made with 5.1 speakers and applied to a 5.1.4
configuration will result in the .4 upper speakers being passed through without modification. User trim
and delay can be added, but obviously Dirac didn’t know about these channels. Users are warned of this
situation with magenta text on the calibration and speaker pages:
Things are a little more complicated with subwoofers. If a Dirac Live calibration is made with bass
control for a 5.3 configuration, using it on a 5.1 configuration will result in sound, but you will have only
the primary sub signal. It is not optimal. No warning is given. Similarly, using a 5.3 speaker layout with
a 5.1 calibration will result in the two extra subs getting copies of the first sub. This again is not optimal.
And using a 5.4 speaker configuration with a 5.3 calibration will result in the fourth sub getting a copy of
the first sub. This can be useful to drive a non-speaker transducer like a seat shaker.
A DLBC Tour
Open the Dirac Live Tool. The most current version, today V3.04, is preferred. When you connect to
the HTP-1 you should notice that the pass through audio stops immediately. The volume is set to 25% of
the difference between your minimum volume and 0dB..
After checking levels, launch the sweeps. The Dirac tool will complain if you do less than 5 sweeps.
Never-the-less, testing with one sweep is a good idea before you invest fully in measuring. It’s a good
idea to try to achieve fairly even levels without applying the individual trims in the Dirac program. Note
which channel has the highest level when you calibrate. Dirac lowers the level of this channel to match
that of the others.
On the filter design page you can choose “off” or “upmix only”. If you have purchased the additional
license you can choose “full bass optimization”. The “off” setting results in the use of the standard
HTP-1 bass manager. “Upmix only” engages the Dirac bass manager. This allows you to set the
crossover frequencies in the Dirac Live tool.
