Waistband Amplifier
with MP3 Player
Please read these operating instructions carefully prior to
operating the unit and keep them for later reference.
1 Applications
The WAP-5USB is especially designed to amplify the
voice picked up by the microphone. The practical belt
strap allows to wear the amplifier around the waist and
ensures complete freedom of movement. Thus, the unit is
ideally suited for lectures, training sessions, sports train-
ing, etc.
With the integrated MP3 player (readable file systems
FAT 16, FAT 32), MP3 and WMA audio files can be
replayed and speech and vocals can be recorded in the
MP3 format via the microphone.
2 Safety Notes
The units (speech amplifier, power supply unit, micro-
phone) correspond to all relevant directives of the EU
(marking ).
It is essential to observe the following items:

Only nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries (Ni-
MH) may be recharged with the power supply unit. Dry
batteries cannot be recharged and may leak or explode
when trying to recharge them!

The units are suitable for indoor use only. Protect them
against dripping water and splash water, high air
humidity, and heat (admissible ambient temperature
range 0 – 40 °C).

Do not set the power supply unit into operation, or
immediately disconnect it from the mains socket if
1. there is visible damage to the power supply unit or to
the speech amplifier,
2. a defect might have occurred after a drop or similar
accident,
3. malfunctions occur.
The units must in any case be repaired by skilled per-
sonnel.

For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, never use chem-
icals or water.
G
No guarantee claims for the units and no liability for any
resulting personal damage or material damage will be
accepted if the units are used for other purposes than
originally intended, if they are not correctly connected
or operated, or not repaired in an expert way. Likewise,
no liability will be accepted for data loss caused by
operating errors or by a defect and for any consequen-
tial damage of this data loss.
If the units are to be put out of operation defini-
tively, take them to a local recycling plant for a
disposal which is not harmful to the environ-
ment.
Do not put exhausted batteries or defective rechargeable
batteries into the household rubbish but take them to a
special waste disposal (e. g. collective container at your
retailer).
WARNING
The power supply unit is supplied with haz-
ardous mains voltage. Leave servicing to
skilled personnel only. Inexpert handling or
modification of the power supply unit may
cause an electric shock hazard.
3 Power Supply
The WAP-5USB can be operated with batteries/recharge-
able batteries or the supplied power supply unit which also
serves for recharging batteries.
1) For operation with the power supply unit connect it to
the jack DC IN (14) and to a socket (230 V~ / 50 Hz).
2) For operation independent of the mains insert six bat-
teries or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries of size AA, as
indicated in the battery compartment, and close the bat-
tery compartment.
3) With the power supply unit connected, the batteries
are automatically recharged. The charging indication
RECHARGE (13) lights up. When the batteries are fully
charged, it will be extinguished.
4) The batteries are discharged or exhausted when the
unit is switched on and the POWER indication (9) does
not light up or when the MP3 player is switched on and
the display (7) shows
. Recharge or replace the
batteries.
4 Setting into Operation / Microphone operation
1) Tie the speech amplifier with the belt strap (15) around
your waist.
2) Attach the microphone to the metal rod of the headband
(fig. 2) and the cable holder to the metal head strap
(fig. 3). Put on the headband and adjust the microphone
so that it is close to your mouth (fig. 4).
3) Connect the microphone to the jack MIC IN (10). To pre-
vent accidental disconnection of the plug of the micro-
phone, use the cap nut to fasten the plug to the jack.
4) Switch on the unit with the volume control VOL (8) and
adjust the desired volume. The green POWER LED (9)
will light up.
5) After operation, switch off the unit with the volume con-
trol VOL.
If the WAP-5USB is not in use for a longer period of
time, disconnect the power supply unit from the socket;
even with the amplifier switched off, it will have a low
power consumption. If any batteries have been in
-
serted, remove them to prevent damage to the unit in
case of battery leakage.
5 MP3 Player
1) Switch on the speech amplifier with the volume control
VOL (8). In addition, switch on the MP3 player: Keep
the button
(1) pressed until the display (7) lights
up. (To switch off, keep the button pressed until the dis-
play will be extinguished.)
If a USB flash drive or an SD / MMC card has been
inserted, the first title starts after reading-in, otherwise
the display shows
.
2) To replay audio files on a USB flash drive, connect it to
the USB port (12). To replay audio files on an SD/MMC
card (up to 32 GB), insert the card into the slot SD (16).
The bevelled edge of the card must point upwards and
to the unit. To remove the card again, slightly press it in
so that it disengages.
After reading in, the first title starts and the display
shows the folder number and the title number alter-

when non-rechargeable batteries are in
the speech amplifier. The batteries may
leak or explode!

In addition, the time already played of a title is shown
(min.: sec.).
3) The MP3 player is operated with the buttons (1) to (6)
above the display. However, a function can only be acti-
vated when the background illumination of the display
is switched on. When pressing one of the buttons, it is
switched on for a short time. Therefore, press a button
twice, if necessary.

Press the button, after a short time the display

The recordings are memorized in the folder

4) The replay can also be made via headphones. Connect
the headphones to the jack PHONE (11). Then the
speaker is switched off.
