PA Mixing Amplifier

for 5 Zones

Please read these instructions carefully prior to
operation and keep them for later reference . All
operating elements and connections described
can be found on the fold-out page 3 .

Connection of the speakers (chapter 5)

requires adequate technical knowledge in 100 V
PA technology and is to be made by experts
only . Operation of the amplifier is easy, even
for adults without any expert knowledge . How-
ever, in case of any queries, please contact your
installer or retailer .

1  Safety Notes

This unit corresponds to all relevant directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with   .

WARNING

The unit uses dangerous mains
voltage . Leave servicing to skilled
personnel only and do not in-
sert anything into the air vents!

Inexpert handling may result in electric shock .
During operation, there is a hazard of con-
tact with a dangerous voltage up to 100 V at
the speaker terminals (10, 16) . Always fold
down the protective cover before operating
the amplifier .
Always switch off the amplifier before making
any connection .

•

The unit is suitable for indoor use only . Protect
it against dripping water and splash water,
high air humidity and heat (admissible ambi-
ent  temperature  range:  0 – 40 °C) .

•

Do not place any vessel filled with liquid on
the unit, e . g . a drinking glass .

•

Immediately disconnect the mains plug from
the socket

1 . if the unit or the mains cable is visibly dam-

aged,

2 . if a defect might have occurred after the

unit was dropped or suffered a similar ac-
cident,

3 . if malfunctions occur .
In any case the unit must be repaired by skilled
personnel .

•

Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the
mains plug from the socket, always seize the
plug .

•

For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never
use water or chemicals .

•

No guarantee claims for the unit and no liabil-
ity for any resulting personal damage or mate-
rial damage will be accepted if the unit is used
for other purposes than originally intended, if
it is not correctly connected or operated, if it is
overloaded or not repaired in an expert way .

If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harm-
ful to the environment .

2  Applications

This amplifier with a 120 W RMS output volt-
age is specially designed for PA systems . Either
use 100 V or 70 V speakers or low-resistance
speakers (minimum impedance: 4 Ω) . With 100 V
speakers, a wider range of applications will be
possible . The speakers can be divided into five
zones (fig . 4) and switched on individually or
together using the buttons ZONES (7) .

For music reproduction, an MP3 player has

been integrated . A USB flash drive or a USB
hard disk with separate power supply can be
connected to this player .
The amplifier is equipped with 6 inputs:
1 ×  microphone input MIC 1 (2) for important

announcements taking priority over all other
inputs, i . e . as soon as a signal is present at
the input MIC 1, the volume of the signals
at the other inputs will be attenuated

1 ×  line level input EM INPUT (17) for important

announcements (e . g . from a telephone sys-
tem) taking priority over the inputs INPUT
2 – 5 and over the MP3 player, i . e . as soon
as a signal is present at this input, the signals
of the inputs with lower priority and of the
MP3 player will be faded out

2 ×  inputs INPUT 2 and INPUT 3, each input to be

used either as a microphone input (11, 19)
or as a line level input (20)

The microphone inputs are designed as XLR
jacks and 6 .3 mm jacks . For the XLR inputs,
the amplification is adjustable and a 48 V
phantom power can be activated .

2 ×   line level inputs INPUT 4 and INPUT 5 (21),

e . g . for background music from an MP3 /
CD player, radio or tape deck

3  Setting Up the Amplifier

The amplifier is designed for installation into
a rack for units of a width of 482 mm (19”);
however, it can also be used as a tabletop unit .
In order to ensure sufficient cooling of the am-
plifier, air must always be able to flow freely
through all air vents .

3.1  Installation into a rack

For rack installation, fasten the two mounting
brackets with screws to the sides of the amplifier .
For installation into a rack, the amplifier requires
2 RS (2 rack spaces = 89 mm) . To prevent the rack
from becoming top-heavy, insert the amplifier
into the lower section of the rack . The front plate
alone is not sufficient for fixing the amplifier
safely; additionally use lateral rails or a base plate
to secure the unit .

The hot air given off by the amplifier must

be dissipated from the rack; otherwise, heat
will accumulate in the rack which may not only
damage the amplifier but also other units in
the rack . In case of insufficient heat dissipa-
tion, install a ventilation unit into the rack (e . g .
DPVEN-04) .

4  Operating Elements,

Connections

4.1  Front panel

USB port of the MP3 player to connect a
USB flash drive or a USB hard disk

Note:

Due to the large number of storage device

manufacturers and device drivers, it cannot be
guaranteed that all storage media are compati-
ble with the MP3 player .

Input MIC 1 (6 .3 mm jack, unbal .) to connect
a microphone

The input MIC 1 has a priority circuit: When
an announcement is made via this input,
the volume of the other inputs will be auto-
matically attenuated so that it is easier to
understand the announcement . To adjust
the level of volume attenuation, use the
control MUTE LEVEL (18) .

Input level controls to mix or fade in / fade
out the input signals

Operating elements of the MP3 player
(

 chapter 4 .3)

Tone controls BASS and TREBLE

Control MASTER for the volume of the
mixed signal at the line outputs and speaker
outputs (22, 16, 10)

Buttons ZONES to switch on / off the five
speaker groups (speaker zones) connected to
the terminals ZONES OUTPUT (10):
Buttons 1 – 5 for each individual zone
Button ALL for all zones

Output level indication (2 …12),
LED TEMP to indicate overheating,
LED PROT to indicate muting while switching
on / off and to indicate a short circuit or an
overload at the speaker outputs (10, 16)
If the LED TEMP lights up, improve the
ventilation of the amplifier . As soon as the
amplifier has cooled down, the LED TEMP
will extinguish .
If the LED PROT fails to extinguish a few
seconds after switching on or if it lights up
during operation, switch off the amplifier
and eliminate the overload or the short cir-
cuit at the speaker outputs (refer to chap-
ter 5) . The LED PROT will extinguish . If you
are not able to identify the fault, consult
skilled personnel .
