1.1 MinePhones in a Network

The MinePhone has two modes of operation:

•

Infrastructure mode

— MinePhones connect to the wireless network via an Access Point to perform

data and voice communications.

•

Ad-hoc mode

— MinePhones operate without the need of a wireless network by connecting to each

other "peer to peer".

The diagram below shows an example of each mode, in this case using MP70 phones in an Intrinsically
Safe environment (e.g. coal mine).

Note:

MinePhones must be in the same mode to communicate with each other.

The MinePhone can make and receive two types of calls:

•

Push to Talk (PTT) — Walkie talkie style communication.

•

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) — Calls can be made within the network (WLAN) or outside the
network (to outside phone lines) depending on the SIP server configuration.

Refer to the MinePhone User Guide for making SIP calls and using PTT.
