The RTC circuit provides the date and time for the system. If the external battery for the RTC is
low, it will prevent your system from POSTing, and you will not get a display. Normally the life
span of the battery is several years. When necessary, replace the battery with a new 3V lithium
battery (type CR2032).
Flash EEPROM
Your system board uses flash memory to store BIOS firmware. It can be updated as new
versions of the BIOS become available. You can upgrade your BIOS using the flash utility.

Removin g t he S ystem Board

Unplug the power cord, or the computer could accidentally start.

Remove the access panel. See “Removing the Bezel” on page 9-55.

Disconnect all back panel I/O connections (such as a keyboard, printer, or speaker).

Disconnect the power supply, fan, and LED connectors from the motherboard. Removing the
power supply connectors requires releasing the plastic latch that locks the connectors to the
system board.
