g) TROUBLESHOOTING
TROUBLE
POSSIBLE CAUSES
REMEDIES
External
Leak
at Shaft
Damaged Shaft Seal
shaft Seal installed
incorrectly.
Replace shaft seals
Contamination in seal area.
Disassemble, clean all debris and rust from
shaft, shaft seal groove area, repair/polish as
necessary, install new seals.
Check fluid filtration and contamination level.
Shaft - scratched, scored,
worn or damaged from
corrosion.
Repair shaft, if possible, by lightly polishing in
a radial fashion, recommend replace.
If there is any doubt about quality of the shaft
surface where the seals are the shaft should
be replaced.
GEN2 Actuators - install the inner most shaft
seal in the unused middle grove.
Internal damage. Scored or
galled metal surfaces
contaminate hydraulic fluid
with small metal pieces.
Replace all scored and excessively damaged
pieces. Clean thoroughly, install new shaft
seals.
External
Leakage
at Joint
Between
Head and
Body
Pinched head seal (between
head and body)
Can be pinched at
assembly.
Remove head from body, inspect O-ring to
determine if it has been pinched.
Replace O-ring seal if damaged.
If O-ring seal shows signs of extrusion,
inspect CPR cartridge.
Extruded head seal
(between head and body)
Defective CPR cartridge
allows excessive Pressure
spikes leading to seal
extrusion.
Inspect and Test CPR cartridge, recommend
replacing cartridge.
External
Leak –
Manifold
Not tightened down fully
Torque all bolts per specifications (see
Torque Chart in this manual)
Verify (2) O-rings not extruded.
Manifold interfering with
radius on heads preventing
manifold from seating fully
on manifold mounting face.
Verify manifold is not interfering with the
radius of either of the heads by slipping a
piece of paper between the two parts – it
should pass freely from top to bottom. If
there is interference, remove manifold and
remove limited material from the radius of the
head to eliminate interference.
Check that (2) O-rings have not extruded and
torque all mounting bolts per specifications
(see Torque Chart in this manual).
Damaged O-rings between
manifold and body
Remove manifold, inspect O-rings and
sealing surfaces on both the manifold and
mounting face and O-ring pockets on the
body for damage.
External
Leak
at bolts or
dowels
Cracked casting from
overloading in use or over
torquing of bolts
Replace defective parts.
Porosity in casting
Replace defective parts.
