The extended battery cabinet installation to the EXL 1000
UPS should be performed by a trained electrician. If the UPS
is already connected to utility, power down the UPS by
shutting off the upstream circuit breaker and shutting off the
battery circuit breaker on the UPS. Wait at least 5 minutes
before installing extended battery cabinet to UPS.
There are landings on both the UPS and the extended
battery cabinet for 3/4 inch flexible conduit, which should be
used to house cable wiring. All wire gauges and installation
should be performed as per local and NEC codes.
EXL 1000 UPS output 208 or 240 VAC phase to phase.
There is no neutral. Battery terminal blocks, located at rear
panel of UPS, are provided on the back of the UPS for
connection of one or more external battery cabinets. The
smaller terminal blocks are for connection of a customer
supplied EPO circuit.
Connect 3/4 inch flexible conduit of appropriate length and
slack, as per local and NEC code, to the conduit landings of
the EXL 1000 UPS and the extended battery cabinet. Using
the rightmost hole on the UPS landing and the leftmost
landing on the extended battery cabinet will allow for the
most direct path for wires. Secure the conduit to the landings
with flexible metal conduit fittings.
Position battery cabinet near EXL 1000 series UPS. Set
leveling feet on battery cabinet to stabilize unit.
If UPS is already installed and supplying power to a load,
place in “MAINTENANCE BYPASS” before continuing instal-
lation by doing the following:
• Go to front of UPS and press gray button. This turns off
the UPS inverter and automatically transfers the UPS
output to static bypass that continues to power the load.
• Go to rear of UPS and turn maintenance bypass switch
to the BYPASS position.
• Turn off the battery circuit breaker on the UPS and the
battery cabinet.
Remove conduit landing covers from UPS and battery
cabinet by using a torx screw driver to remove torx screws
that fasten conduit landing covers. (see figure 1-2)
