4.2.3.1.1.1.5
Peer Name (L2 Only)
The peer name option will allow the use to select from a range of devices that can be
accessed on this layer 2 network. This selection works using the MDP discovery
beacons with the remote units advertising their presence. The menu allows the use
to toggle through the list of available devices.
If no remote unit is found using MDP, then the “Magic Mac” should be selected.
Note, if the remote end is a simply physical loopback plug, or a L1 port loopback the
“Self” option should be selected.
4.2.3.1.1.1.6
MAC Address (L2 only)
The remote MAC address is the address that will be added as destination address
on the L2 test packets generated. The correct value depends upon the loopback
device.
4.2.3.1.1.1.6.1
NetTESTER remote loopback device on a P2P/E-Line connection
As the remote loopback device is a member of the Metrodata NetTESTER family, (or
a Metrodata EDD device) and the connection is point to point with no other loopback
hosts connected, the global “magic” loopback address may be used for the test
packets.
The global loopback address is 00:C0:81:FF:00:00 and will be looped back by the
Network / WAN port of every NetTESTER/EDD device that receives the frame and
has loopbacks enabled.
However, the remote device should be discoverable with MDP so the unique
loopback address should still be used in preference.
