WARNING:
Never walk in front of a tree that has been
notched.
Make the felling cut (D) from the other side of the tree, 3-
5 cm above the notch cut’s (C) bottom.
Never saw all the way through the trunk. Always leave holding wood, which acts as a hinge. The hinge
guides the tree. If you saw all the way through the trunk, you will lose control over the direction of fall.
Insert a felling wedge in the cut well before the tree becomes unstable and starts to move. This prevents
the bar from getting caught in the felling cut, if you have misjudged the direction of fall. Make sure that
nobody is in the tree’s felling direction before you fell it.
Before making the final cut, always check that there are no people, animals or obstacles in the way.
Never walk in front of a tree that has been notched.
Felling cut
1.
Use wooden or plastic wedges (A) to prevent the
bar or chain (B) getting caught in the cut. Wedges
also guide the direction of fall.
2.
When the diameter of the tree is greater than the
bar length, make two cuts, as illustrated.
WARNING:
The tree should begin to fall when the felling cut approaches the hinge. When the tree starts
to fall, remove the saw from the cut, stop the engine, put down the chain saw and leave the area along
the retreat route.
