Never use a blade without an approved guard. If a faulty or broken guard is fitted, this could lead
to serious injury.
Muffler
•
The muffler is designed to keep noise levels to a minimum and to direct exhaust fumes away
from the operator.
•
Never use a machine with a faulty muffler.
•
Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached.
•
The muffler contains chemicals which could be carcinogenic. Avoid contact with the inside of the
muffler should it become damaged.
•
Remember that the exhaust fumes from the engine are hot and may contain sparks which can
cause a fire. Never start the machine indoors or near combustible material!
Trimmer head
IMPORTANT!
•
Always ensure that the trimmer line is tight and evenly wound around the drum, otherwise the
machine could produce harmful vibrations.
•
Only use recommended trimmer heads and trimmer lines. They have been tested by the
manufacturer to fit a specific engine size. This is especially important when a fully automatic
trimmer head is used. Only use recommended blades.
•
Smaller machines generally require smaller trimmer heads and vice versa. This is due to the fact
that when clearing, the engine has to eject the line radially from the trimmer head, and must be
able to handle the resistance from the grass being cleared.
•
The length of the line is also important. A longer line requires greater engine power than a
shorter line of the same diameter.
•
Check that the tine on the trimmer guard is intact. This is used to cut the line to the correct
length.
Accessories
Blades and grass cutters are intended to cut thick grass. Ensure the blade’s tines are properly sharp-
ened! Follow the instructions and use the recommended grading. An incorrectly sharpened or dam-
aged blade increases the risk of accidents. A trimmer head is only intended to be used for trimming
grass. Any damaged blade or trimmer head must be replaced immediately.
Sharpening blades
•
Sharpen blades using a single-cut mill file.
•
Sharpen all edges equally to maintain the balance of the blade.
•
Any blade that is bent, twisted, cracked, broken or damaged in any other way must always be
discarded. Never attempt to straighten a twisted blade so that it can be reused. Only use original
blades of the specified type.
