4.7 Basic working technique
4.7.1 To cut with a pulling chain
Always cut with a pulling chain if it is possible. When you
cut with a pulling chain, the chain pulls the product forward
from the user. The front of the product gives support and
absorbs the force from the tree that is cut.
4.7.2 To cut with a pushing chain
When you cut with a pushing chain, the chain pushes the
product rearward against the user.
Warning!
If the bar jams, the product can push the
product against the user with much force. There is a risk that
the end of the bar touches the tree and causes a kickback.
4.8 Tree felling
4.8.1 To prepare before tree felling
●
Make sure that there are no persons or animals in the
work area. The work area is 2.5 tree heights around the
tree that is to be cut.
●
Prepare a retreat route that is diagonally rear and out
from the expected direction of the falling tree.
●
Make sure that there are no objects that can cause the
operator to fall.
●
Make sure that the nearest work area is 2.5 tree heights
from the tree that is to be cut.
4.8.2 To fell a tree
1
Make a cut through 1/3 of the diameter of the tree
trunk, on the side that the tree is to fall.
2
Cut the felling cut from the opposite side. Do the cut
3-5 cm above the first cut. Do not cut through all of
the tree trunk. The tree that is not cut gives the
correct direction of the fall.
3
Stay on the side of the tree that is felled.
4.8.3 To cut wooden logs on the ground
Warning!
Make sure that the chain does not touch the
ground or an object.
1
Cut half through the wooden log (A).
2
Turn it over (B) and cut on the opposite side (C).
(Figure 13)
4.8.4 To cut wooden logs on a support
If it is possible, use a support when you cut wooden logs.
1
In area A, cut through 1/3 of the diameter of the
wooden log from above.
2
Cut through the rest of the wooden log from
underneath.
3
In area B, cut through 1/3 of the diameter of the
wooden log from underneath.
