Dynamic Switching:
For Data packets, the SWCNT works as an ordinary Ethernet
switching hub to control the packet switching dynamically based on the results of
automatic learning.

Static Routing:
The MD8000 Stream packets are designed to support Multicast
application, and in order to prevent the L2SW from broadcasting packets to all the
ports, they are switched on the basis of static route selection.
Bandwidth Allocation
Figure 3-3.1 illustrates the slot layout of the MD8000 chassis. The 9 slots available to install
the Trunk and Channel Service boards are color coded according to bandwidth allocation for
communication with the SWCNT-9 boards.

Each of slots 1,3,5,7,8,9,10,11 and 12 are allocated 20 Gbps for communication
with the SWCNT-9 boards.

Slots 2, 4 and 6 are marked with an
N
designating that they have no communication with
the SWCNT-9 boards. These slots may be used when installing double-wide modules.

Slots 11 and 12 are marked with a
C
designating they are capable of extracting
clock from an external network.

The new SWCNT-9X2 is equipped with a new L2SW, but the functionality is basically the same
as the conventional SWCNT-9 which can now be called SWCNT-9X1 in contrast to the
SWCNT-9X2. Only firmware version 5.00 or above can control the SWCNT-9X2.
DO NOT
mix installation of a conventional SWCNT-9X1 card and a newer
SWCNT-9X2 card in the same chassis. They will not function together.
However, having said that, video and data

be freely transported between a
SWCNT-9X1 installed chassis and a SWCNT-9X2 installed chassis
