3.9: Common Error Messages
Error Code Possible Cause of Error and Resolution
Top Door is
opened The top access door is detected as being open. Please ensure it is closed and secure.
Error Ejecting
Card The card in process has not been detected in passing through the card eject stage. Check
to ensure that a card is not present or stuck in the card path. If the error does not clear,
perform a system reset. If the problem continues, perform a system restart.
Error
Encoding Card This may be due to the cards not oriented correctly, a bad Magstripe on the card, no
Magstripe on the card, or an incorrect coercivity. Ensure the card is placed in the unit with
the Magstripe down and to the right (as you face the hopper). Ensure the coercivity of the
card matches that defined by the application.

Embossing
Card There may be a few causes for this error. The card may not be fully seated in the XY
Transport Clamp, the card may be at an angle in the XY Transport Clamp, or the Embosser
sensor is not detecting the card. Ensure the card path is clear and resume operation.
Error Hopper 1
(or 2) Empty This may be due to the hopper being empty, the weight has not been placed on the top of
the stack, or the cards may not be fully inserted. If the cards are loaded completely and
correctly and the problem persists, you may need to perform a system reset.
Error Getting
Display This error indicates that the printer has lost communication with the motherboard. Reboot
the system and if this does not clear the error verify that the USB cable is connected to the
rear of the printer and the motherboard.
Error Encode
Verify This indicates that the data encoded to the card could not be verified when the card was
read. Please ensure that the card stock is correctly oriented and that the proper coercivity
for the card is selected.
Error Initializing
Encoder This indicates there was a problem in starting the Encoder. Please shut down the unit and
restart.
Error Parsing
XML Data This indicates that the XML data sent to the ExpressCard 1000 was not correctly formatted
or was using an incorrect syntax. Please verify the code/command being sent.
Error Missing
Required XML
Tags This indicates that the XML data sent to the ExpressCard 1000 was not correctly formatted
or was using an incorrect syntax. Please verify the code/command being sent.
Printer is Busy
Printing an
Existing Job This indicates that a current print job is being processed. If no job appears to be in process,
check to see if there is a card jam. If the problem continues, perform a system restart.
Error XY Move
To Home
Position The XY transport mechanism could not be detected at the home position. Check to ensure
that a card is not present or stuck in the card path. Also make sure that the ribbon cable is
properly seated. If the error does not clear, perform a system reset. If the problem
continues, perform a system restart.

To Printer
Handoff
Position The card did not transition properly from the printer to the XY transport mechanism. Check
to ensure that a card is not present or stuck in the card path. If the error does not clear,
perform a system reset. If the problem continues, perform a system restart.

Embossing
Card This indicates an error in the embossing process. Ensure the card has been ejected and the
unit returns to a ready condition.
