CALIBRATION
Magnatech calibrates each power source using instrumentation traceable to National Standards
(NIST). All instruments are checked for accuracy by independent laboratories at scheduled intervals.
We recommend that equipment be recalibrated every 12 months.
The travel, wire speed, and oscillation motors use encoders and therefore never require calibration.
17.1 Arc
Voltage
17.1.1
Arc Voltage may be verified. Contact factory for specific calibration procedure.
Tools required: Certified DMM (Digital Multimeter).
17.1.2
Write a simple test program using nonpulsed current.
17.1.3
Remove cover from controller. Locate test points TP9 and TP10 on Slave 1
PCB p/n 104823.
17.1.4
Attach negative test lead to TP9 and positive test lead to TP10. Set DMM to
measure DCV.
17.1.5
Start weld program and verify arc voltage on remote pendant and DMM are
within the acceptable tolerances.
17.2 Weld
Current
17.2.1
Weld Current may be verified or adjusted to within the acceptable tolerances.
Tools required verifying Weld Current: Certified DMM and Certified shunt (100
mV @ 200 Amps)
17.2.2
Write a simple test program using nonpulsed current at the desired test
amplitude.
17.2.3
Place the shunt in series with the WORK lead at the power supply connection
point.
17.2.4
After welding arc is initiated, Attach test leads from DMM across shunt.
17.2.5
Measure the millivolts across the shunt to determine the actual current.
17.2.6
With the arc on, adjust R10 on Slave 1 PCB p/n 104823 until the DMM reading
matches the acceptable tolerances.
17.3 Wire
Feed
17.3.1
Wire Feed may be verified or adjusted to within the acceptable tolerances.
Tools required verifying Wire Feed: Tape measure
17.3.2
Attach weld head to control system and power up system. Jog wire feed to
position wire at end of wire aiming nozzle.
17.3.3
From the main menu screen on the remote pendant, select “Menu”.
17.3.4
Scroll down to “Calibrate Head” and enter.
17.3.5
Select the head to calibrate, select Wire, and enter the amount to run.
Example: If you expect to run 30 IPM wire speed, enter 30 inches.
17.3.6
Press the Run soft key to initiate wire test.
