3.16.3
Cutting Height
Cutting height is determined by a combination of the cutterbar/mower conditioner angle and skid shoe settings.
Adjust cutting height for optimum cutting performance while preventing excessive build-up of mud and soil inside
the mower conditioner that can lead to poor crop
fl
ow and increased wear on cutting components.
To choose an angle that maximizes performance for your crop and
fi
eld conditions, refer to
• Lowering the skid shoes and decreasing mower conditioner angle increases the cutting height resulting in longer
stubble lengths that helps material dry faster. This may be desirable in stony conditions to help reduce damage
to cutting components.
• Raising the skid shoes and increasing mower conditioner angle decreases the cutting height resulting in a
shaved crop.
To minimize cutterbar damage, scooping soil, or soil build-up at the cutterbar in damp conditions, mower conditioner
fl
oat should be set as light as possible without causing excessive bouncing.
NOTE:
When
fl
oat setting is light, it may be necessary to reduce ground speed in order to prevent excessive bouncing
and leaving a ragged cut.
Adjusting Cutting Height
DANGER
To avoid bodily injury or death from unexpected start-up or fall of a raised machine, stop engine, remove
key, and engage header lift cylinder lock-out valves before going under machine for any reason.
