3.
Connect the communication network cables between the controls and the
WebGate 3G module:
Consult the wiring diagram (figure 3). The WebGate 3G
module supports a RS-485 communication link if the NET-IN2 wired
communications card is installed and connected to the J2 connector on the top
electronic card (see figure 4). It is possible to connect up to 80 controls into the
NET-IN2 port. Please note that most controls will require purchasing a
communication card.
Apply the following cabling instructions
:
•
Use an RS-485 network cable with the following characteristics: 2
twisted pairs with shielding and AWG 24 or 28 caliber drain wire, with
an impedance characteristic of 120
S
. EX: Belden 9842, 8132, 8132FO,
82842, 89842, West Penn Wire D4852, D254852.
•
Use a twisted pair to link terminals A&B and another twisted pair to link
terminals C&D. It is not necessary that the WebGate 3G module be at
the end of the loop. Note that if the control is equipped with only 3
terminals (A, B, C), terminals C&D of the WebGate 3G will be linked
with a wire connector at the control communication card level and then
connected at terminal C of the control’s communication card.
•
For communication ports not at the end of a loop, maintain continuity of
the shielding by linking the drain wires.
•
Ground the drainage wire of one control only.
•
For a total cable length greater than 500’ (150 m), it is necessary to
install a 120
S
resistor on communication ports at the end of a loop. Use
the resistors included with the WebGate 3G module. Install resistors on
terminals A&B as shown on the wiring diagram (figure 3).
Warning
:
•
Total cable length must be no greater than 2500’ (750 m).
•
If the network cable must cross a high-voltage cable, cross the cables at
a 90° angle.
•
Do not use overhead cables outside of the building. Exterior cables must
be underground.
•
This cabling task requires RS-485 network expertise.
