Impact to the Network Performance
The
streaming packet size
has a major impact to the network performance. The
higher is the size of the packets, the smaller is the overhead which has to be
sent for each packet. Less overhead means fewer data sent over the network
and therefore smaller CPU utilization on both sides.
However, a disadvantage of larger packets is that the partition of the overall
network bandwidth is no more guaranteed. If multiple devices are streaming at
the same time using large packets, the network bus may become overloaded
and packets are getting lost, as explained in the previous chapter.
Thus using the larger packet size is highly recommended for a high performance
transmission with a few network members only. If multiple cameras have to
stream at the same time, a smaller packet size has to be set.

Setting the MTU
On the
PC side
the setting is usually available in the NIC Driver settings, which
is available under menu
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network
Connections -> Local Area Connection -> Properties
