Dual Network Interface Card
Note: The DDSDC does not support the DirecDoor Dual Network Interface Card (NIC).
The DirecDoor Dual Network Interface Card (NIC) provides a secondary Ethernet communications
port to existing DirecDoor controllers. This chapter covers the additional installation steps for using
the Dual NIC and how to set up the configuration parameters in the Integrated Configuration Tool
(ICT).
The configuration options of the second Ethernet port are the same as the primary Ethernet port. In
particular, the configuration options support IT standards such as DHCP and NFS. The secondary
Ethernet port does not source PoE power. The primary and secondary ports must be on distinct,
separate networks.
The DirecDoor Dual NIC is supported on all currently supported versions of OnGuard that are
licensed for ACU feature support. The DirecDoor controllers must have a compatible firmware
(version R020 or later).
The DirecDoor CPU uses a Type-3 SIMM, flashed with R020 or later firmware.
Notes: Circuit board components are vulnerable to damage by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
ESD can cause immediate or subtle damage to sensitive electronic parts. An
electrostatic charge can build up on the human body and then discharge when you touch
a board. A discharge can be produced when walking across a carpet and touching a
board, for example.
Before handling any board, make sure you dissipate your body’s charge by touching
ground. This discharges any static electricity build-up.
Installation
The DirecDoor Dual NIC is installed on a DirecDoor CPU board.
Any DirecDoor CPU board can be upgraded to a Type 3 SIMM with Dual NIC.
Before connecting the network cables to primary and secondary network connections, loop the
network cable through each Ferrite provided and wrap the cable around the Ferrite four times.
