7. Startup
• Select an objective with moderate
magnification (10x-20x).
• If necessary, activate the transmitted light
axis by pushing the
TL/IL
button (43.1).
• Choose "bright field" as the contrast method
by pressing the
BF
key (one of the variable
function keys at the stand or at the
LeicaScreen).
• Insert the specimen in the stage’s specimen
holder (45.1).
• Focus on the specimen with the SmartMove
or focus wheel.
• Set the light intensity using the
INT
keys
(43.3).
• Close the field diaphragm with the
FD
function
key (43.4) until the edge of the diaphragm ap-
pears in the specimen plane.
• Using the condenser height adjuster (45.2),
adjust the condenser until the edge of the
field diaphragm appears in sharp relief.
• If the image does not appear in the middle of
the field of view (47c), the condenser must be
moved into the middle of the field of view with
the help of the two centering bolts (46.1).
• Open the field diaphragm just enough for it to
disappear from the field of view (47d).
Caution:
The light of the condenser depends on the
thickness of the specimen. It has to be adjusted
for each specimen.
