9. Contrast Methods
9.1.2 Oblique Illumination (RL)
• First, configure the brightfield basic setting as
described in Item 9.1.1.
• Activate the Oblique Illumination by rotating
the crank at the rotating wheel (Fig. 25.3) from the
lowest position (Fig. 25.2) into the upper position
(Fig. 25.1).
• Pick the rotating wheel (Fig. 25.3) in the middle
and rotate it until the desired contrast gets vis-

CAUTION
Do not look into the eyepieces when toggling
the contrast method! During the toggling pro-
cedure, the maximum radiant power of the
light source may be present on the eyepieces
for a short time and can temporarily blind the
user!
9.1 Incident Light
9.1.1 Bright Field (RL)
• Insert a suitable specimen and rotate an ap
-
propriate objective into place. For the basic
bright field settings, start with a 10x or 5x objec-
tive.
• Switch on the
BF
(= brightfield) or Smith reflec-
tor.
• Where applicable, switch the tube beamsplit
-
ter* to observation and remove the analyzer*
(Fig. 26.1), polarizer* (Fig. 26.2) and IC prism* (Fig.
27.1) from the beam path (pull them out part of
the way).
• Adjust the lamp brightness (28.3) and focus the
image.
• Based on the color coding, set the field dia
-
phragm position that matches the objective (Fig.
54).
